Investigative Reporter- Southwest Louisiana Job at Capital City Press in Baton R

Capital City Press, Baton Rouge, LA, US

Job Description

Job Description

The Advocate and The Times-Picayune, as part of our mission to bring aggressive, fair-minded public-service journalism to all corners of Louisiana, are adding an investigative reporter for southwest Louisiana to our award-winning investigative team.

The reporter will produce watchdog journalism in a region from the Texas border east through Lake Charles and Lafayette. In recent years, our investigative team has written policy-changing stories on environmental regulation, infant mortality, an ongoing property insurance crisis and the racist underpinnings of a now-reformed jury system, and we expect this regional reporter to thrive in an area rich with stories. Our best investigative work has often grown out of great beat coverage, and we ask our investigative reporters to balance shorter-term enterprise with long-tail projects, all while working closely with beat reporters, editors, and data, graphics and audience teams to ensure their work reaches audiences across platforms.

The position, which is funded through a two-year philanthropic grant, is based in Lafayette, the center of Cajun culture in Louisiana and an important economic hub.

The Advocate is an equal employment opportunity employer, committed to recruiting, developing, and promoting a diverse workforce while providing unique opportunities and career paths for our employees. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, Life, Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD), Paternity Leave, PTO and 401k Retirement Savings company match.
