Job Description

HII is looking for a Senior Graphics Designer to support the Department of Air Force (DAF) AFWERX directorate. This role is central to ensuring the program's branding is consistent, visually compelling, and aligned with the DAF and AFWERX missions to transition innovative technologies to the Warfighter. The Senior Graphic Designer will collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, including engineers, scientists, senior DAF and AFWERX leadership, industry partners, external vendors, videographers, writers, social media specialists, and Program Managers (PMs). The ideal candidate will be adept at blending technical knowledge, design expertise, and strategic thinking to create digital and print assets that effectively communicate complex concepts in an accessible way.

Essential Job Responsibilities

+ Visual Design & Branding: Develop and maintain graphic design assets for AFWERX, including logos, infographics, presentations, brochures, digital media, and other program outreach content that effectively convey the mission and objectives of the program.

+ Web Design & Development: Design and oversee the creation of user-friendly, visually engaging web pages and digital content that align with program branding, ensuring a seamless user experience and up-to-date content management.

+ Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with engineers, scientists, senior leadership, industry stakeholders, videographers, writers, social media specialists, and PMs to translate complex technical information into visual narratives that support the program's goals. Provide design consultation and strategic input to ensure graphics align with both technical requirements and communication objectives.

+ Print & Digital Production: Oversee the creation of print-ready assets, ensuring high-quality output for a variety of formats (e.g., brochures, booklets, manuals) and manage the production process, including vendor relationships and the use of in-house printing capabilities.

+ Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring that deliverables meet deadlines, quality standards, and budget constraints. Communicate progress and updates to key stakeholders regularly.

+ Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all designs comply with Air Force Public Affairs policies and guidelines and assist in the clearance process for public-facing materials. Maintain comprehensive records of design assets and processes for future reference and compliance tracking.

Minimum Qualifications

+ 7+ years of professional graphic design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in both creative design and technical execution.

+ Bachelors degree preferred

+ Proficiency with industry-standard design software, including:

+ Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, After Effects)

+ Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

+ Google Workspace

+ Experience with website development tools (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace, HTML/CSS) and content management systems (CMS)

+ Experience with DAF and AFRL processes is highly desirable, particularly with respect to Public Affairs policies and procedures. A solid understanding of DAF branding guidelines and clearances is essential.

+ Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams, including technical experts, senior leadership, and external vendors.

+ Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders.

+ Attention to detail and a keen eye for design consistency, quality, and adherence to branding standards.

Preferred Requirements

+ Experience working with DAF Public Affairs teams to ensure compliance with branding and media relations.

+ Familiarity with digital marketing tools and techniques (e.g., SEO, email campaigns, social media assets).

+ Basic knowledge of video editing for producing engaging multimedia content (e.g., short explainer animations).

+ Familiarity with UX/UI principles and designing with accessibility in mind for digital interfaces.
