CTSI Full Time 82842BR Job Summary The Office of the AVC-CR and CTSI are recruiting for a dynamic, experienced communications professional to serve as the Communications Manager. Reporting to the Director Operations the incumbent with work with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Clinical Research and CTSI Director and Administrative Leadership to develop and implement a strategic communications plan and branding strategy to support the both the AVC-CR Office and CTSI, ensuring metrics of success and impact are incorporated. They will advance the goals of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research and CTSI Director while increasing stakeholder awareness and utilization of CTSI resources and infrastructure. Through branding and events, the incumbent raises the profile of CTSI programs, and conveys their value and impact to stakeholders (researchers, research participants, UCSF leadership, community partners, NCATS) and creates mechanisms to ensure that stakeholders' priorities are identified and their needs and priorities are continuously incorporated into CTSI programs and services. The incumbent will execute organizational communications including the following: developing and maintaining digital sites for the AVC-CR Office and CTSI, disseminating information via communication channels (i.e., announcements, calls to action, newsletters, social media, and Townhalls), designing and implementing information campaigns which include components of written, visual, digital, and electronic communications, liaising closely with UCSF's central comms team and others to ensure alignment and leverage opportunities for collaboration on communications priorities, meetings, events, and managing select media releases including pitch drafts and news stories. Representing the AVC-CR Office and CTSI within leadership forums organized by UCSF central communications.
Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with both the Director Operations and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Clinical Research and CTSI Director to assess communication needs within the Office and CTSI and develop implementation plans to meet those needs. The position is hybrid, with a minimum expectation of quarterly onsite work, with the possibility of up to 12 times annually based on priority events or responsibilities. The salary range for this position is $79,000 - $127,200 (Annual Rate). This includes representation of the UCSF clinical research community to the Vice Chancellor of Research (VCR), other UCSF leadership, and extramural stakeholders. The office of the AVC-CR works with campus clinical research leadership to improve clinical research support across sites, schools, and disciplines. The office directs and facilitates the development and implementation of innovative programs and activities that address the priorities of the clinical research community. These include programs in clinical trials operations, enterprise-wide biobanking, clinical trial data sharing, and additional areas of need. The AVC-CR also directs and serves as principal investigator for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is a large, highly complex research unit within the Office of the AVC-CR that spans the four UCSF health science schools (Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Dentistry), the UCSF Graduate Division, and collaborating affiliates of UCSF. The mission of CTSI is to facilitate clinical and translational research to improve patient and community health. CTSI does this by providing infrastructure, services, and training to make research more efficient. CTSI develops broad coalitions and partnerships at the local, regional, and national levels to enable a transformation of the research environment. CTSI has $25-$28M in annual funding from multiple sources (NIH, institutional, philanthropy, industry and other) and includes 20 interdisciplinary programs

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training Minimum of 3 (three)years of directly related experience Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications Strong skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Knowledge of appropriate editorial style for various publication types (i.e., newsletters, websites, etc.) Proven skills to collaborate within and across departments to coordinate and exectue communications plans. Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with department managers and peers.
