The Office of the Town Manager seeks a Communications Coordinator (CC) to help ensure the delivery of accurate, helpful, and timely information about the Town of Arlington for the general public.

The Town of Arlington is located six miles northwest of Boston and is home to approximately 45,000 residents living in a compact urban community of 5.5 square miles. Because of its proximity to Boston, Arlington residents are able to enjoy its diverse neighborhoods, active civic life, and good public transportation options.

This position is funded for at least two years.

Job Description & Duties

Working under the direction of the Town's Public Information Officer (PIO), the primary responsibility of the Communications Coordinator is to support the PIO and the Town in the creation and delivery of communication services and management of communications systems within federal, state, and local requirements, policies, and guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be naturally curious, comfortable in digital environments, and have a calling for public service. They must have a strong eye for detail and respect for consistency, while being flexible to changing circumstances. They should be a patient problem solver that can work independently as well as work within interdepartmental teams. Comfort in online environments and working knowledge of standard office software (MS Office, MS365 or Google Suite) and remote communications systems (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.) are essential. Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), productivity software (Trello, Slack, or similar), social media management tools, and graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud) are highly desirable, but we are willing to train.

A sampling of duties and opportunities include, but are not limited to;

Works with Public Information Officer to help ensure the delivery of accurate, helpful, and timely information for the general public through several Town communication channels, including web, social media, local media, and emergency alert systems.

Update the Town's website in accordance with ADA regulations.

Assist in staff training on ADA best practices and monitoring tools.

Assist with staff training and technical support of various communications systems, such as website (CMS), Request/Answer Center (CRM), and social media management (Loomly).

Social media coordination, management, and scheduling.

Write, edit, and proof-read news content (e.g., press releases).

Create, manage, and catalog digital media assets.

Reporting: compile and analyze campaigns using Google Analytics, Google DataStudio, and other available analytics.

Provide editorial and production support for major publications such as the Town's Annual Report (Adobe InDesign).

Support and/or develop effective communication plans and campaigns.

Cover Town events (photograph / video / write).

Provide general administrative support to the PIO, including, but not limited to, scheduling meetings and serving as PIO back up.
