Job Description:
The OU Athletic Writing Center welcomes and encourages applications from students in a variety of academic disciplines. Student Writing Consultants in the OU Athletic Writing Center provide writing support for student athletes in scheduled 1:1 appointments, walk-in appointments, and writing workshops throughout the semester. Writing Consultants must be available to work at least 10 hours per week, attend and actively participate in paid, mandatory training, and contribute to building and sustaining rich writing resources for our writing community. This position offers opportunities for professional development and ongoing support from our Support Services Coordinator. Student Writing consultants work an average of 10 hours per week and may work up to 20 hours per week. Schedules are built based on student athletes’ needs and individual consultant availability.
Responsibilities:
- Consult with writers through regularly scheduled appointments and walk-ins
- Develop, plan, prepare, and implement a strategic writing approach for all writing appointments
- Attend regular meetings, trainings, and collaborations in-person or on Zoom
- Complete daily reports for each assigned student
- Be open to providing and receiving constructive feedback about sessions
- Use effective communication skills to engage students in conversations that maximize their brainstorming potential
- Encourage students to develop ideas, maintain and document sources, and revise for readability
- Provide coaching using the results from TurnItIn.com
- Communicate with other Writing Consultants and the Coordinator often
- Assist with special projects and events as assigned
- Engage in ongoing professional development and consultant education
- Arrive in a timely manner
- Clearly and effectively deliver instruction
- Keep all student information confidential
- Perform other duties as assigned
Writing Consultants must:
- Have successfully completed both English Composition courses with an A/B
- Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
- Be proficient in MLA, APA, and Chicago formats
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate material while engaging with our student-athletes in a positive manner
- Be willing and able to communicate and build relationships with a varied group of students and colleagues
- Be willing and able to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
- Be willing and able to adhere to standards of conduct for Athletics Academics Tutoring Staff

Job Requirements:
Required Education: Must be enrolled in the Spring term full-time as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Must have earned a B or higher in the specific course or have been awarded a degree in that area.
