SCENIC CHARGE ARTIST

Travel Dates: May 18 + August 23, 2025
Compensation: $3,850 for 14 weeks + travel, room, and all meals
Reports to: Production Manager and Technical Director
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- From the Scenic Designer’s vision, paint all scenic pieces and show decks for the mainstage season.
- Work collaboratively with TD and Props Designer to complete all work in a timely manner.
- Prepare paint samples/treatments when requested and execute various scenic painting techniques.
- Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner. Track deliveries and purchases and submit all necessary paperwork to the Production Manager. Work to ensure shows are completed within deadlines and budgets.
- Supervision of Acting Interns when working with paint.
- Attend and participate in production meetings.
- Complete overnight paint calls for changeover as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of basic scenic painting techniques (wood grain, brick, etc.) essential.
- Experience using sprayers and applying texture is a plus.
- Ability to follow health and safety standards.
- Valid driver’s license preferred but not required.

ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
The New London Barn Playhouse is an award-winning professional theater now in its 93rd season. As one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in the country, the Barn is a cultural jewel of northern New England. Housed since 1933 in a centuries-old converted barn with historic landmark status, the theater offers a mix of classic and contemporary musicals and plays performed by seasoned professionals alongside emerging young artists. The Barn operates on an AEA Council of Stock Theatres contract, with an annual operating budget of approximately $1.5 million dollars. The organization produces a six-show Mainstage season between Memorial Day and right after Labor Day each summer, with additional productions including the New Hampshire Symphony, one night-only cabarets, and a Children’s Theater Series throughout the season.
