The DEIB Communication and Outreach Support Specialist reports to the Workplace Culture and Development (WCD) DEIB and Development Strategist. This is a part-time, non-permanent position. This entry-level position provides developmental opportunities to prepare the incumbent for similar, full-time, permanent positions at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or other state agencies.
The DEIB Communication and Outreach Support Specialist will assist the DEIB and Development Strategist with developing communication and outreach strategies for programs designed to grow and develop DNR employees and enhance the agency-wide culture. This position will assist in developing DNR’s Pro-Equity, Anti-Racism (PEAR) Strategic Action Plan, focusing on the communication portion for outreach with community partners and stakeholders. The DEIB Communication and Outreach Specialist will assist with developing processes to gather community and stakeholder feedback, implement changes, and track continued community and stakeholder feedback on DNR’s PEAR Strategic Action Plan using diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), Pro-Equity Anti-Racism, and environmental justice best practices. This position will also assist with data collection, cleaning, and writing first drafts to present complex data to the PEAR Team, leadership, managers and supervisors, and external communities and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Community and Stakeholder Outreach
- Assist with developing PEAR community and stakeholder outreach guidelines.
- Assist with organizing in-person and virtual PEAR outreach with communities and stakeholders.
- Support community outreach with event setup.
- Development and Distribution of DEIB and PEAR Communication Materials
- Write the first draft communications for the monthly PEAR Team updates.
- Draft supplementary materials that aid in successfully communicating PEAR information and achieving strategic goals.
- Identify key communication materials that require translation for dissemination and work with the WD Office Administrator to order translation services.
- Review and assist in editing communications by checking grammar, clarity, and form.
- Report Editing, Data Collection, and Data Input
- Assist with collecting qualitative and quantitative data from interviews, surveys, and other methods.
- Collect PEAR and DEIB data to aid in producing reports and presentations.
- Enter data into spreadsheets for analysis and data tracking.
- Assist with the production of basic reports, contributing to identified sections of the report and providing relevant recommendations to aid the DEIB and Development Strategist.
- Support Pro-Equity, Anti-Racism (PEAR) Strategic Action Plan Development
- Assist the DEIB and Development Strategist in identifying, creating, and sharing resources, best practices, and models surrounding PEAR.
- Support the development of feedback mechanisms for PEAR Plan review and development.
- Review and assist in editing the PEAR Plan by checking grammar, clarity, and form.
- Performs other duties as assigned and professional development
- Job shadow with DNR’s Internal Communications and Workplace Culture and Development.
Required Qualifications:
- At least 6 months of education or experience with writing, design, and content creation.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft products.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
- Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
