Part-Time Editor
The award-winning Cass County Star-Gazette (www.beardstownnewspapers.com), based in Beardstown, Illinois, is seeking a part-time Editor. Our community newspaper serves as the eyes and ears of historical Cass County. The position offers a flexible schedule and a friendly and positive work environment.
The right candidate will have the skills to write and edit a weekly newspaper and will be passionate about reporting community news from Main Street to area towns. Knowledge of sports coverage is a plus. You must be curious, enjoy asking questions, and have good writing and grammar skills. You must also be able to take photos when covering events.
Responsibilities:
- Editing written articles, including obituaries and news releases.
- Work with freelancers and correspondents and assign events for them to cover.
- Knowledge of InDesign is desirable.
- Oversight of the Star-Gazette Facebook page.
- Creativity is a plus as you will help design our front and inside pages.
- Strong commitment to the profession of news and community.
- Meet news deadlines.
This is a perfect position for someone who has reporting background experience, or has a journalism education and wants to tell the stories of Beardstown and the towns throughout Cass County. The Cass County Star-Gazette has served the region for over 150 years with compelling stories that cover breaking news, health, education, sports, arts and entertainment, agriculture, and more.
