Position Information
Position Title: Library Technical Assistant
Status:
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Coordinator of Computer Lab/Library System Manager, ensures that students and faculty have access to and assistance in the use of computer technology. Assist with management of library computer and library management system for the Tuskegee University Library Services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide user support for software applications and computer peripherals
- Assist with installation of new computers, printers, and other equipment
- Assist with management of library’s webpage, online databases, and other electronic services
- Assist patrons in the computer lab
- Work with the office of Information Technology Service (ITS) with larger projects in the library systems umbrella
- Maintain 3rd party systems used by the library systems umbrella
- Make technology recommendations and upgrades for the library systems umbrella
- Perform system maintenance updates as needed
- Assist with training and supervising assigned student assistants
- Assist with providing technical support and training to the library staff
- Keep track of lab usage, attendance, and supplies
- Enforce procedures for using the lab, including equipment, supplies, and software
- Keep abreast of current changes in technology
- Respond to questions from students, staff, and instructors with information relating to the computer laboratory, both over the phone and in person
- Maintain records of activities undertaken in the computer lab, which includes tracking the number of students utilizing the lab
- Determine what class students are taking and how much paper is used by students
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree with two years of related work experience
- Must have experience using various computer platforms, office suite software, and other computer-related equipment.
- Must be able to work nights on a rotating schedule (Sunday-Thursday)
Physical Demands:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to walk short distances
- Ability to view a computer terminal; extensive reading
