Job Summary:

Under supervision, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this position performs various routine phases of technical library work.

  • Catalog and classify new materials, update bibliographic records, and ensure the accuracy of the online catalog.
  • Process new books for shelf ready by printing labels.
  • Assist cataloger with removing old materials from the collection.
  • Search online databases for catalog records.
  • Assist with Interlibrary Loans processing.
  • Sort and shelve journals and magazines in the serials department.
  • Assist with weeding of collection.
  • Order supplies for the department.
  • Coordinate with other members of staff to perform periodic cataloging projects with the objective of updating outdated or incorrect information.
  • Train and supervise student assistants.
  • Work nights and weekends on a rotating basis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training):

A bachelor’s degree with two years of related work experience Or

an associate’s degree with four years of related work experience.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to walk short distances.
  • Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items.
  • Ability to view a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Ability to lift at least 10 pounds.

Skills and Attributes:

Knowledge of:
Basic library functions.

Skills:

  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • The use of technology, including social media platforms.

Ability to:

  • Work collaboratively with staff.
  • Lift and carry parcels, packages and other items.
  • Work independently and adhere to strict timelines.
