Max Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro)
Position Summary: This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Video Reporter positions for the Orange Media Network (OMN) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Video Reporter is responsible for pitching, researching, and writing/creating multimedia stories for OMN’s news teams, primarily KBVR-TV’s “The Chew” newscast, The Daily Barometer, and Beaver’s Digest, as required by the TV News producer and/or editor-in-chief of the publications.
Position Duties
Responsibilities:
- Pitches, accepts and develops story ideas that have news value for the OSU community
- Conducts research and necessary interviews to produce thorough video news stories that include multiple relevant perspectives
- Conducts interviews with sources, shoots and edits video, writes scripts and provides narration for video stories
- Responsible for editing together news videos between 60 seconds to 1:30 minutes, under direction of TV news producer and/or publication editors-in-chief
- Prepares information for on-screen graphics
- May be asked to present their story live in studio
- May be asked to create horizontal and vertical versions of stories
- Remains objective and provides fair and accurate coverage
- Participates in critique sessions with producer to make any necessary revisions in style or content
- Pursues news in a timely fashion
- Shares stories on social media to reach audience
- Covers breaking news as needed
- Attends all staff and team meetings, including weekly reporter meetings
- Able to act as mentors to new hires
- Other duties as assigned
Communication
- Responds to emails, messages, team chats, and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
- Ensures you are using, checking, and responding to project management platform (Basecamp, Discord, etc.)
- Notifies adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel, or controversial problems occur
Leadership
- Follows all OMN policies and procedures
- Acts professionally at all times
- Ensures designs and content are centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and constituencies
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
