General Description
Assist students in the Writing Center and provide feedback on writing assignments.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the fall or spring semesters or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the summer.
2. Have completed ENGL 1113 (English Composition I) and ENGL 1213 (English Composition II) with a final grade of B or above, or have completed ENGL 1113 with a final grade of B or above and be enrolled in ENGL 1213, or have successfully completed ENGL 1113 and ENGL 1213 and be recommended by an OCCC faculty member (letter of recommendation must be provided and must accompany a writing sample).
3. Have a cumulative or institutional GPA over 2.5.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic computer proficiency, excellent writing skills, understanding of grammar rules and documentation styles such as MLA, excellent verbal communication, ability to work effectively online, proficient clerical skills, positive human relations skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and an understanding of the value of a peer leadership role.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
1. General Physical Requirements: Sedentary work: may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
2. Physical Activities: Frequently move about the center to assist students and perform essential functions; communicate with and listen to students, faculty, and staff; operate and inspect a computer and other Writing Center equipment.
3. Visual Acuity: Judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
4. Working Conditions: Perform essential functions in an indoor center, classroom, or office setting.
Work Hours
Flexible depending on the needs of the Writing Center during business hours, Monday through Friday and Saturdays during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Job Duties
Assist students in individualized exercises performed in the Writing Center, assist students with their writing through the Writing Center’s online tutoring program, provide supplemental instruction to clarify and reinforce class instruction, assist faculty and students in the use of computers and computer learning programs, perform miscellaneous filing and other clerical duties for the center, conduct tours of the center and in-class presentations as needed.
