Pay Range: $1,420 to $1,700 per credit hour
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Hours: Lab COM 117.26 meets on Wednesdays 5:15pm – 6:35pm. Office Hours are required.

Job Description: The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach COM 117.26 Multimedia Storytelling Lab on Wednesdays 5:15pm – 6:35pm during the Spring 2025 semester (1 credit). This class is a foundation course required for all majors in the Newhouse School. Students work collaboratively in teams of three to produce a variety of short films that tell stories that persuade, document, and entertain predefined audiences. Basic story structure is taught as well as how to write and edit stories for video production. Students learn digital photography, videography, and editing for sound and picture.
Qualifications: Preference will be given to those with previous experience teaching a college-level course. Instructors for this class should have a working knowledge of story structure, script-writing, and production design. Instructors should be familiar with story development and the production process for persuasive, non-fiction, and fiction storytelling. They should be able to evaluate student script writing and video editing for team projects. Must have basic skills in digital photography, video, and audio. They should also be familiar with the primary software package used by the students in the class: Adobe Premiere.
Responsibilities: It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
- Developing a syllabus.
- Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class and others.
- Preparing for classes.
- Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
- Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to personally instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.
- Ability to hold office hours on campus.
- Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment: Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
