We’re looking for a dynamic Community Engagement Journalist to join our team and lead the way in crafting compelling narratives that inspire connection, amplify diverse voices, and challenge the status quo.

This role is located in Roanoke, VA.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, produce, and edit creative story ideas that incorporate innovative storytelling styles to ensure differentiated content that fosters connection and sparks meaningful engagement.
  2. Spotlight stories of underrepresented voices, sharing narratives that challenge conventional perspectives and redefine news.
  3. Build and maintain strong connections with our audience, responding to comments, messages, and trends with authenticity and care.
  4. Foster a sense of community by sharing stories that resonate deeply with diverse audiences.
  5. Break the mold with fresh approaches to storytelling, experimenting with formats and platforms to amplify impact.
  6. Stay ahead of trends in social media, video production, and content marketing.

Key Qualifications:

  1. BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience.
  2. Proven experience in social media management and video production.
  3. Exceptional storytelling skills with a deep understanding of narrative structure and audience engagement.
  4. High level of proficiency with video editing software and social media tools.
  5. A strong creative drive and the ability to work independently as a self-starter.
  6. Promote teamwork attitude with station employees.
  7. Passion for uncovering untold stories and giving a voice to the unseen and undervalued.
  8. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company-required insurance limits.
