Reporting to the Head of Resource Description & Management, the E-Resources Metadata Librarian leads the University Library's e-resources cataloging activities and plays an integral role in acquiring, activating, verifying, and monitoring the continued accessibility of machine-readable cataloging (MARC) records. The E-Resources Metadata Librarian will join the Resource Description & Management (RDM) unit within the Technical Services department made up of librarians and staff with expertise in describing and managing all formats of library materials and multiple non-English languages who work together within a collaborative team structure to make discoverable a diverse array of library materials to advance instruction and scholarship across campus.
The person in this role will set priorities, train and supervise staff, manage projects, and develop workflows in close collaboration with the E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian and other colleagues in Technical Services as part of a cross-functional team that strives to deliver a seamless user experience within a complex discovery environment in an effort to uphold the organization's commitment to its priorities of accelerating learning, discovery, creativity, and informed citizenship through the rapid and seamless provision of access to dynamic collections.
The person in this role will work closely with colleagues in Resource Acquisitions & Management to coordinate decision-making around the acquisition of machine-readable cataloging (MARC) records immediately upon their availability, participate in troubleshooting access to e-resources with a cross-functional team of Technical Services staff, and be central to the libraries' effective melding of metadata schemas in creating a cohesive, user-friendly catalog interface.
This position will be pivotal in building out their team to continue to exercise bibliographic control over an ever-increasing number of e-resources. This position will contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of local workflows, documentation, and record-keeping practices for electronic resources description and management, including training and supervising student workers and staff as needed.
Additionally, the person in this role will oversee the department's collection of e-resources holdings statistics; establish and maintain professional relationships with library record vendors in support of the acquisition of e-resource records and collective troubleshooting of problems with access; serve on relevant Library committees, task forces, and working groups and represent UNC University Libraries at consortia and professional venues related to electronic resources description, management, and access, contributing to the professional dialogue and a wide variety of relevant Library initiatives.
