Description

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Running Backs Coach provides assistance to the Head Coach in order to run a successful athletics program. The Running Backs Coach mentors student-athletes to help them reach their full potential on and off the field; helps build a program that the University, students, alumni, and community can be proud of. This position will assist in the recruiting of potential student-athletes and provide complementary management of the program including practice, competitions, travel, purchasing, and other duties as assigned. The Running Backs Coach will adhere to institutional, conference, and all other required regulations and policies.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Recruits student-athletes and completes necessary compliance paperwork with regard to recruiting.
  2. Assists in academic counseling sessions with players.
  3. Assists with practice planning with other members of the coaching staff.
  4. Assists the head coach in the development of the running back position segment of the team, which includes but is not limited to: organization of practice and games, scheduling, budget management, supervision of academic progress, public relations, and compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA rules.
  5. Maintains current sport-specific technical and coaching knowledge, develops existing members of the program, assists in the organization of practice plans and competition, communicates and demonstrates specific required skills.
  6. Adheres to all institutional, Conference, and all other rules, regulations, and policies.
  7. Assists in the oversight of volunteer coaches and student workers to ensure that all team-oriented duties are completed in a timely manner.
  8. Acts as a liaison to help coordinate community service involvement.
  9. Assists the Head Coach in all academic matters pertaining to the team, including instructing/teaching student-athletes in the fundamentals of the sport.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning with prior participation experience in collegiate athletics; Master’s degree preferred.
  2. 2-5 years coaching experience at the college level is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to coach, teach, and mentor student-athletes required.
  4. Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
  5. Must be responsive, quick-thinking, and possess an innate ability to anticipate and respond to issues.
  6. Establish priorities and work in an organized manner with emphasis on detail and accuracy.
  7. Ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments and meet competing deadlines.

Physical Demands

The work environment is an athletic and office setting which requires the ability to travel much of the time, work long hours including evenings and weekends, be physically active, able to lift up to 50 pounds, and have the ability to demonstrate specific skills.
