PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To create, implement, and facilitate age-appropriate activities for school-aged participants.
REPORTS TO:
Program Director/Supervisor

I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited toDesigning age-appropriate, standards-based music curricula for groups of elementary and middle school-age youth in afterschool and summer programsProviding weekly instruction in vocal music and composition, and leading weekly activities for youth of all agesCollaborating with participants to compose and perform songs and musical arrangements showcased in performances for the program, school, and/or communityIncorporating the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts and the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards for English Language Arts into the music curriculumPlanning and collaborating with colleagues to produce 2 - 3 annual program-wide performancesHelping to create and implement special events, staff development, and other community building activities.Contribute to the planning and execution of special events, staff development training, and other community building activitiesAttend weekly professional development meetings
II. QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Degree minimum requirement: Bachelor's DegreeHas a strong vocal music instruction backgroundHas skill in piano and/or guitar accompanimentStrong interpersonal and organizational skillsHas skills working with youth of all agesFlexibility and the ability to work well as a member of a team of different disciplines (artists, teachers, young-adult staff)Interested in managing and creating positive experiences for groups of youth, including participants with special needs and challenging behaviorsBilingual: English/Mandarin/Cantonese or English/Spanish, preferred

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERSBuild and maintain close, daily interactions with participants, co-workers, and supervisorsEngage in discussions and training regarding receiving/providing information, discussing arising issues, explaining or interpreting guidelines/instructions, and instructingHave a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization.Possess a strong belief in people's ability to grow and changeForge a mutually respectful partnership with the people served and their families.Maintain contact as needed with participant's families, school personnel, and external community groups to co-exist in the same space

V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Music Activity Specialist's role focuses on creating, facilitating, and offering school-aged children the opportunity to engage in music activities and experiences.
Salary
This is a full-time, in-person position, based on a typical 35-hour work week. Annual salary ranges from $48,000 - $52,000 and is commensurate with experience and education .
