International Deadline: Recurring April 15, September 15, January 15 – The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences offers a residency program that supports talented artists in exploring and developing their creative voices.
Located on 600 acres in the mountains of north Georgia, Hambidge provides a tranquil environment that inspires artists across various disciplines to produce high-caliber work.
Apply now for the upcoming season.
ELIGIBILITY
Qualified applicants must be working professionally in their field. We welcome applications from emerging, mid-career, and established artists with national or international reputations.
Residency applications are judged mainly on work samples and professional promise. Hambidge accepts about 170 artists annually. There are no publication, exhibition, or performance requirements for residency eligibility.
We encourage creative professionals from all backgrounds to apply. We value diversity and are committed to inclusivity regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, geographic origin, or socioeconomic status.
WHEN
Residency applications open mid-February and close from mid-December to January. Deadlines are:
- March 1 – April 15 for the FALL SESSION (September–December)
- August 1 – September 15 for the SPRING SESSION (February–May)
- December 1 – January 15 for the SUMMER SESSION (June–August)
Hambidge is closed from mid-December to mid-February.
FEES & FELLOWSHIPS
The residency costs $2,250 per week. The Hambidge Center raises funds to cover $1,950 per week, so residents pay only $250 weekly.
Several merit-based Distinguished Fellowships are available, waiving the two-week residency fee and providing a $700 stipend. These vary by session and are listed in each session’s application. Most are reserved for first-time residents; check the website for current details.
STUDIOS
Hambidge has 9 secluded cottages/studios with living and working spaces, great views, privacy, kitchens, and bathrooms.
MEALS
Resident Fellows gather in the evenings Tuesday through Friday in Lucinda’s Rock House for vegetarian dinners prepared by our chef.
SETTING
Located on 600 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the center features nature trails, meadows, waterfalls, a swimming hole, wildflowers, and mountain air.
The Center is funded by the Fulton County Arts & Culture, the Georgia Council for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
