Nativity Church of Fargo is seeking a full-time professional leader as Liturgy and Music Coordinator. The individual will be responsible for coordinating liturgical and music ministries, encouraging the ministry of parishioners, and assuring that all ministries work together to celebrate good liturgy and prayer. Position Description:
Liturgy and Music Coordinator (Full-time)
Reports to: Parish Pastor
Position Schedule: Full-Time – 12 months / 40 hours per week. Hours differ with seasons and include weekend and evening work.
Position Summary:
Provide professional leadership in the areas of liturgy and music; coordinate liturgical and music ministries; encourage the ministry of parishioners; be a liaison to commissions, committees, and groups of the parish. Assure that all ministries work together to celebrate good liturgy and prayer. Salary and Benefits: Position qualifies for participation in the Diocese of Fargo Lay Employee Pension Plan. Position is eligible for benefits as per Nativity Church of Fargo policies.
Position Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train and support parishioners involved in liturgical rites and music ministry, including proper use of music and instruments used.
- Supervise the assistant to the Music and Liturgy Coordinator (approx. 6 hrs/wk).
- In conjunction with representative musicians, prepare the music, musicians and rites for liturgies including Sundays, Holy Days, weddings, funerals, and reconciliation services.
- In conjunction with the priests, prepare the petitions and announcements for all liturgies.
- Accompany weekend masses, funerals, weddings, and other liturgical services in the absence of other accompanists.
- Assure the recruitment and development, and maintain lists of, altar servers, proclaimers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, ushers, greeters, sacristans, sacred linen cleaners, baptismal garment makers, and art and environment committee members.
- Direct the part-time and seasonal adult choir (Oct. 1st – Apr. 30th). Rehearse choir one hour per week and direct them at 9:15 am liturgy (with one Sunday off a month) and also at “Midnight Mass” and Triduum liturgies. Train replacement director from within the choir to substitute in the event of director’s absence.
- Direct the part-time children’s choir (Oct. 1st – Apr. 30th). Rehearse choir and direct at a minimum of one liturgy per month.
- Direct, or recruit a director for, the part-time bell choir, to play at special liturgies throughout the year.
- Supervision of adult choir, children’s choir, bell choir, various music groups, and cantors.
- Order liturgical and music supplies and maintain the tuning of instruments.
- Provide consultation to the Nativity School music teacher in matters of liturgy and music.
- Further professional and personal growth by participating in relevant workshops and seminars.
- Assure Safe Environment protocols are being followed.
- Prepare budgets for position responsibilities.
- Attend staff/team meetings and functions.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the pastor.
Education/Qualifications:
- An understanding and support of the Roman Catholic Church is required.
- Understanding and experience of the Eucharistic Liturgy is required.
- Membership and active participation in Nativity parish is required.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to empower others are required.
- Proficiency in piano and/or organ is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and communicate in electronic formats is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare a budget and oversee its implementation is preferred.
