This Senior PR Specialist will support the Police Department's communication needs by collaborating with a team of graphic and web designers, video producers, and other public relations professionals to ensure understanding and execution. This position will also provide guidance and expert advice to managers within Communications, clients within the Police Department, and peers on public relations strategy, including campaigns and special events.Essential Duties
Developing strategies for communicating important messages from Gwinnett Police to residents, businesses, and other stakeholdersResearching, writing, and preparing content for social media pages, websites, presentations, marketing materials, speeches, newsletters, video scripts, and correspondenceReviewing work for errors before printing or publishingAccepting and providing constructive criticism and resolving conflictsConceptualizing and collaborating on the creation of print and electronic materials (newsletters, flyers, brochures, and graphics)Managing and maintaining branding and style standards (content, font, image, and logo usage)Coordinating special projects and special eventsAssisting with media relations, including developing news releases, facilitating information requests, and conducting on-camera interviewsKeeping current on new communications tools and tactics, and seeking new opportunities to reach target audiencesPublic Speaking Duties
Leading meetings with client departmentsExplaining job duties to youth and adults during outreach programsMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or a related fieldFour years of experience developing and publicizing community programsAn equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.Valid driver's licensePreferred Qualifications
Experience in developing scripts for video, photography and photo editing software, developing content (digital media, email newsletters, social media), measuring digital media tools for effectiveness, public relations agency, working with a public safety department/officeAbility to read, write, and speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, or another language proficientlyTraits for success: Creative communicator with impeccable interpersonal and customer service skills, flexible, open-minded, and willing to adapt to changing/competing priorities, able to manage multiple demands, skilled in time management, drive to seek new ways to grow personally and professionallyWriting Sample Requirements
