Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an individual to fill the role of Coordinator of Library Services. This position is responsible for the management of the campus library and supports the diverse information needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community. The Coordinator of Library Services reports to the Vice President of Academic and Student Services.
Position Responsibilities :
Ensures that the library provides resources and services to support new and existing educational programs of the college and to advocate for the goals and objectives of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS);
Works with college faculty to develop workshops and other programs that produce information-literate students and lifelong learners; provides bibliographic instruction and research skills for students, faculty and staff, and community patrons upon request
A demonstrated belief in the community college mission and the value of equity, access, and inclusion for improving the lives of students, their families, and their communities
Manages and actively participates in the daily operations of the library, including staff scheduling and supervision
Develops long-range plans and goals for the enhancement of services, resources, and facilities and ensures that those plans align with departmental goals and the college's mission; prepares an annual plan with budget recommendations to support these departmental goals and the college's mission
Ability to collect and store statistical data and prepare and maintain required reports, records, assessments, and surveys for national, state, VCCS, local, and college stakeholders
Purchases needed library supplies, equipment, licenses, and subscriptions using business office and /or procurement agency policies and procedures
Identifies improvements needed in the library facility and equipment needs
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, faculty & staff, and other stakeholders important to the college
Works independently; exercises discretion and sound judgment in evidence-based decision making; responds to critical matters effectively; and represents the College in a professional manner on national, state, local, and college administrative organizations and committees as appointed or volunteered
Works effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus; provides opportunities in training for new and existing staff in customer service, library management systems, instructional design, information literacy, cataloging and technical services, and circulation/reference desk duties
Keeps faculty and staff informed of available services and resources; promotes library resources and services as a vital part of the college to students, faculty and staff, and community patrons through traditional and electronic methods
Knowledge of collection development, technical services functions, and interlibrary loan services; experience with reader's advisory and reference services; experience in library instruction, student engagement, freshman experience, and outreach

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
MLS or MSIS in Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program
Full-time professional experience in a library setting
