Job Title: SDS Author (Technical Writer)
Location: Open to any of the basins we operate in. Preferred location(s): Midland, TX; Williston, ND; Minot, ND
Annual Compensation: DOE

Job Summary: Function as a critical business partner to support the successful launch of production chemicals product lines.
Expectations: Expected to write safety data sheets for existing and new product lines. Self-motivated, organized, constant attention to detail, and excellent writing skills. Exceptional communication, outstanding customer service, and strong team player. Requires no supervision.
Essential Duties – other duties may be assigned:
- Author new and revise current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) according to regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, Globally Harmonized System (GHS))
- Revise existing SDS to reflect changes in regulations, chemical compositions, or hazard information for finished goods, performance evaluation samples, and proprietary/blind materials
- Ensure that SDS comply with relevant national and international regulations
- Keep up to date on changes in chemical safety regulations
- Gather information on the properties and hazards of chemical substances from various sources; analyze data to accurately classify and communicate hazards
- Create accurate labeling information for new products
- Provide SDS support to HSE, Operations, Sales & Service, and Technical and Analytical teams
- Respond to SDS inquiries from external and internal customers and satisfy R&D demand for SDS for samples
- Build and maintain a database of SDS using SDS authoring software
- Enter composition, physical properties, and hazard classification information for new raw materials into the SDS authoring software system and database
- Store and maintain vendors’ environmental, health, safety, and regulatory information for raw materials
- Review and edit technical documentation, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), product manuals, and regulatory reports.
- Produce tangible results by using effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Establish strong relationships with internal and external customers
- Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Work well independently and as a team
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (e.g., chemistry, biology, environmental science) required. Minimum of 2 years of experience in relevant roles required.
Certifications/Licenses: None required.
Driving Requirements: Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to see, talk, and hear. Requires close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and view a computer screen. Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. The position is mostly sedentary, involving sitting the majority of the day. Must be able to talk, hear, and see. Must be able to assess accuracy and thoroughness of work.
Work Environment: Indoor office setting with occasional site visits to the field, lab, and chemical yard. Noise level is typically quiet.
Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Effectively communicate detailed data through verbal and written communication. Provide excellent customer service.
Cognitive Skills: Must be able to focus for long periods of time. Ability to comprehend regulatory writing and chemical compounds, problem solve and ensure consistency and accuracy in all work products. Apply critical thinking skills by conceptualizing, analyzing, and evaluating information. Author new and edit existing documents based on information received from technical analyses.
