Department Bio
The Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute draws on the intellectual strength of the George Washington University and the resources of the nation's capital to conduct innovative research focused on Latino and im/migrant communities. Original research produced by the Institute examines current issues facing Latinos in the United States and informs the development of the Institute's student leadership programming. Additionally, the Institute collaborates with partners to translate empirical research on im/migrant well-being for public and policy audiences outside of academia.
Position Specific Summary
The Institute seeks a graduate student with academic or professional experience in public affairs, communications, or digital media to assist in the production and promotion of Institute activities. The student will be tasked with the following:• Draft and distribute public-facing content, such as press releases, newsletters, and other written materials.• Review and refine program language featured on the Institute website and in written comms• Assist in the management of the Institute's social media accounts digital brand.• Collaborate with Cisneros Scholars to build out content for various outlets including blogs, stories, press, and video.• Work with Institute staff to publicize, photograph and execute events and programming.• Assist Communications Manager to brainstorm ways to utilize digital and print media to enhance the Institute's public profile and improve on current practices.• Work with Institute leadership to create communications templates for applying for institutional, corporate, and individual fundraising support.• Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
Candidates should be pursuing graduate study at GW and have at least 1 year of work experience in a relevant area. Strong writing skills are essential.
Standard Position Description
The student will manage and/or design marketing and communication strategies and content for departments and/or special events. Tasks may include: Planning, creating, managing and executing marketing plans and campaigns, website resources, digital content and design, and/or managing of social media accounts. While completing work with a high degree of discretion, the student will work within organization marketing standards and guidelines. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Previous skills, training, or experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingualism (Spanish-English), strong written communication skills, ability to multitask, graphic design skills, demonstrated cross-cultural fluency, a strong interest in nonprofit work, and commitment to the Latino community.
