General Information:
St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Jasper, Indiana, a parish of 1700 families in the Diocese of Evansville, seeks a qualified candidate for a Director of Music and Worship. The candidate should be comfortable at both organ and piano and work well with cantors, choirs, and musicians of all ages and abilities. St. Joseph Catholic Church has music for four Sunday Liturgies that includes a Spanish Mass. Must be fluent in the English language; familiarity with the Spanish language would be an asset but is not required. Familiarity with the Catholic Liturgy is a requirement. Job Qualifications:
Must be fluent in speaking English; Spanish would be an asset.
A Master's Degree in Music preferred.
Must be proficient Organist and piano/keyboard.
At least 2 years experience in Liturgy Planning.
The ability to lead and conduct a choir.
Experience in supervision of staff (staffed musicians).
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
The ability to work well with others.
Ability to give and receive direction.
Strong organizational skills.
Decision-making skills.
Ability to operate basic office equipment.
Knowledge of basic computer software programs.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides quality music for the parish, working closely with the pastor and the Liturgy Commission regarding liturgy planning and music selection for Masses and events.
Responsible for weekly choir rehearsals and for the choir as a whole (paid musicians, employees, and volunteers).
Directs Music Ministry ensembles and activities, coordinating with other choir directors and volunteers.
Directs (sing/play) quality music as scheduled for Masses.
Directs (sing/play) for all major feasts and events outside of Sunday liturgies.
Ongoing planning of music for liturgies, with weekly meetings with the pastor.
Attends weekly staff meetings unless excused by the pastor.
Manages the office of Music Ministry, including fielding inquiries.
Interviews/auditions potential employees and volunteer ministers of the Music Ministry.
Recruits Music Ministers and assists the Stewardship Committee.
Organizes/arranges/orders music for the ministry.
Creates song sheets/worship aides for Masses and liturgical events.
Responsible for the upkeep of the Music Library.
Ensures compensation for employed musicians and contracted instrumentalists.
Works closely with the Bookkeeper regarding the annual budget.
Responsible for church sound and technology as directed by the pastor.
Secures a backup in case of unexpected absences.
Choir rehearsals are to be weekly unless permission is granted by the pastor to change the schedule.
Must maintain Annual Diocesan Safe Environment Certification.
Compensation:
$60,000 to $75,000 salary with benefits.
