Overview
The Editorial Ethics Manager is responsible for providing guidance, oversight, and management of potential ethical issues and cases at the AACR journals. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Serves as the first point of contact for questions from internal journal editors about ethical issues related to published articles and unpublished manuscripts. Works closely with the internal journal content editors and Managing Editors to support the journals in handling potential ethical issues, inquiries, and cases. Helps develop and maintain policies and procedures for handling potential ethical issues. Responsible for coordinating the handling of ethical cases that span multiple journals to ensure the application of similar standards. Tracks the status of pending ethical cases and confirms that the internal tracking system is kept up to date by the Managing Editors. Provides guidance and technical support for evaluating and resolving ethical issues and cases. Uses automated and manual image analysis methods as needed to assist in reviewing cases of potential image manipulation. Organizes, plans, prepares materials for, and delivers presentations and training for internal staff on the identification, evaluation, and proper handling of potential ethical issues. Reviews and coordinates publication of ethics-related corrections and retractions as needed. Provides support in managing and evaluating the performance of any external contractors who assist with identifying and evaluating potential ethical issues. Drafts or reviews correspondence related to publication ethics as needed. Handles other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education and Training
Ph.D. or 3+ years comparable experience in laboratory techniques involving imaging. Experience with digital imaging and Adobe Photoshop. Proficiency with MS Office suite of programs. Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Experience with scientific peer review. Scientific background or knowledge, particularly in biomedical research. Ability to interact effectively with external editors, authors, and reviewers, as well as with internal colleagues at all levels of the organization. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
