Lead GIS Scientist
to lead our geospatial team in Portland, ME. The successful candidate will define and implement our geospatial strategy, leveraging intelligence to support decision-making and enhance client services. We seek a candidate who is action-oriented, outcome-focused, collaborative, and passionate about cutting-edge geospatial technology. This role may suit someone with experience in Geospatial Sciences aiming for a leadership position. Initiative and innovation are key; you should stay current with industry trends, introduce new ideas, and advocate for their adoption. You will provide GIS consultancy and advisory services, offering strategic insights to clients and internal teams, and effectively communicate the benefits of innovations. Your Impact Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and expertise in GIS. Oversee design, development, and implementation of GIS solutions. Foster a culture of innovation within the team. Stay updated on emerging geospatial technologies and assess their impact. Strategize proactively to mitigate risks. Collaborate on integrating geospatial data into projects. Manage GIS projects, ensuring data integrity and quality. Coordinate workload and staffing within the Portland Maine GIS group. Mentor junior staff and review project tasks. Engage with clients and support full project lifecycle delivery. Customize GIS workflows and software for various applications. Who You Are Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, GIS, Geography, or related field. 5+ years in environmental consulting. 10+ years using Esri GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Survey123, ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal). Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Python, Visual Basic, Arcade, or SQL. Presentation-quality cartographic skills. Strong computer troubleshooting skills. Proficiency in Windows OS and Microsoft Office. Problem-solving, organizational skills, and multi-tasking ability. Experience in project management and ownership of work. Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic environment. Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical audiences. Strong work ethic and leadership potential. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with SQL-Server or EQuIS databases. CAD/BIM/Digital Engineering experience. Python customization of GIS software. Proficiency with ArcGIS Arcade. Ability to travel occasionally.
