Manager of Design & Product Development
to support the Product Design team that services the Universal Pictures’ Consumer Products business for Food, Beauty & Care product development. This position will report to the Senior Manager within the Product Design Studio and will contribute to the overall entertainment licensing objectives that drive worldwide brand awareness and deliver revenue to the studio. The role is responsible for implementing the consumer product vision and managing product design & approvals for food, beauty and care categories. This is a design management role that requires an experience of working with product development within the Food, Beauty & Care product categories. Strong communication skills are essential for building relationships internally and externally, along with a talent for art-directing our external partners to design best-in-class and innovative consumer products.This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Learn more about the benefits offered by NBCUniversal by visiting the Benefits page of the Careers website.Salary range: $85,000 - $110,000 (bonus eligible)Responsibilities include:Possess a solid understanding of the licensing industry and consumer products business within Food, Beauty and Care categoriesAbility to design from concept through final samples/productionUnderstand 2D & 3D production process techniques, including execution, fabrications/materials and technical designs to fit various price pointsArt-direct the development for Universal’s IP within Food, Beauty & Care product lines, in partnership with our licensees to deliver best-in-class design executionManage the full product approval process with licensees to ensure submissions are reviewed by all necessary parties, appropriate feedback / approvals are gathered, and turnaround times are met within the appropriate time frameImplement brand excellence across the categories by making any necessary character revisions, infusing storytelling and providing property assets and toolkitsPrioritize schedules based on product development calendar with licenseesCarry out approval meetings with internal and external partnersManage approval functionalities on product approval system (Mediabox)Take part in concept product pitches when necessary, partnering with the Senior Manager and Senior Creative Director to ensure alignmentDevelop trend boards and product POVs based on seasonal trends, themes, color, materials and styling to inspire product innovationJoin creative workshops and key partner meetings with licensees and lead creative kick off meetings/calls directly with licensees for new projectsContribute and share regional product design updates with Global teamCollaborate with wider Creative, Retail and Category teams to align on franchise strategy and design execution through all products in Food, Beauty & Care categoriesProvide accurate design input and modifications based on strong understanding of IP priorities, guidelines & assets through all stages of the product approval processObserve and collate local and regional graphic and product application trendsSupport regional product line reviewsAbility to communicate and collaborate with partners, building successful working relationships with key partners including (but not limited to): Licensees & Agents, Category, Retail, Franchise, and Studios & filmmakersBe an expert in all CP creative assets in order to provide accurate PD feedbackBasic Requirements:5+ years’ experience in Design and Product DevelopmentHighly organized, proactive – a self-starterResourceful in troubleshooting issuesSolid communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to provide clear direction along with organization skills and strong attention to detailAbility to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentFully proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Ability to use keynote, Microsoft Word, Excel and MediaBox system online product approvalMultitaskerBe a team playerDesired Characteristics:Bachelor’s Degree preferredAdditional Requirements:Hybrid : This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
