Bedford North Lawrence High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative Media Specialist to lead the development of a modern, student-centered media center that fosters literacy, digital citizenship, and research skills. The ideal candidate will integrate informatics, technology, and instructional best practices to support students and staff in a 21st-century learning environment.
This individual will also serve as the Librarian of Record for North Lawrence Community Schools, ensuring that district-wide library and media services comply with Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) standards.
Qualifications:- Indiana Teacher’s License with School Librarian (Library Media Specialist) certification or the ability to obtain appropriate credentials.
- A master’s degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in instructional technology, literacy development, research methodologies, and digital resource management.
- Strong knowledge of Indiana’s academic standards for literacy, informatics, and digital citizenship.
- Proficiency with learning management systems, research databases, digital tools, and multimedia applications.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Serve as the Librarian of Record for North Lawrence Community Schools, ensuring all district libraries meet IDOE compliance standards.
- Provide guidance and support to library personnel across all NLCS schools, ensuring consistency in collection development, literacy initiatives, and technology integration.
- Develop and maintain a district-wide library/media plan, including policies for collection development, digital resources, and instructional support.
- Act as the district representative for state and national library associations, ensuring that NLCS stays aligned with best practices in school library services.
- Maintain a welcoming and student-centered media center that encourages reading, research, and inquiry.
- Curate and manage print and digital collections that support academic standards, diverse student interests, and research needs.
- Teach students how to evaluate and use information effectively, emphasizing digital literacy, research skills, and ethical technology use.
- Stay current on emerging educational technologies, research databases, and digital content platforms.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy, digital research skills, and media resources into the curriculum.
- Provide instructional support in research methodologies, citation styles (MLA, APA), and media literacy.
- Promote literacy initiatives, including reading programs, author visits, and book clubs.
- Support dual credit, AP, and career/technical education courses by curating research materials and offering guidance on information sourcing.
- Assist students and staff with digital tools, software applications, and research databases.
- Teach digital citizenship, cybersecurity, and responsible online behavior in accordance with Indiana state guidelines.
- Guide faculty in selecting and integrating educational technology to enhance instruction.
- Maintain and support access to e-books, audiobooks, online learning platforms, and emerging digital resources.
- Maintain an organized, accessible, and up-to-date collection aligned with Indiana academic standards and school curriculum needs.
- Oversee library budgeting, purchasing, and resource allocation with school administration.
- Ensure compliance with copyright laws, fair use policies, and ethical information practices.
- Work with administrators, teachers, and students to ensure library services align with school goals and instructional priorities.
- Provide faculty professional development on best research practices, technology integration, and media literacy.
- Engage with community partners and public libraries to expand student access to additional resources.
- Frequent interaction with students and faculty in both scheduled and flexible instructional settings.
- Occasional lifting, shelving, and organizing of library materials.
- Possible evening or after-school events related to literacy programs and technology workshops.
