Note:
This is an on-site job in Palm Springs, California. You will not be considered unless you live in the general geographical area or are willing to relocate. Relocation funds are not available.
Candidates must be enthusiastic multitaskers who can support editors as they produce a variety of magazines, guides, and custom products in both print and digital formats.
The managing editor works closely with the editor-in-chief, senior editors, art directors, and production manager to administrate and traffic publications through various editorial stages. The managing editor also oversees the flow of custom and sponsored content (text, photography, and layouts), interfacing with clients/publishing partners at every step.
The position requires outstanding organizational, problem-solving, time-management, and copyediting skills, as well as knowledge of AP style and Microsoft Word and Excel and familiarity with InDesign.
This is a full-time, salaried, in-office position with room to grow and stretch creatively alongside our team of talented employees. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and pet insurance options; two weeks’ paid vacation; and a 401k offering.
Salary range is $50,000 - $55,000.
Responsibilities Include:
Trafficking editorial (manuscripts, photographs and artwork, layouts, proofs, etc.), from preparing freelance agreements through shipping pages to productionAssigning and trafficking custom/sponsored/advertorial writing and photographyLogging in and organizing materialsFact-checking and proofreadingProviding research assistanceDatabase entry and managementWriting copy as needed (editorial and sponsored content for print and digital)Pitching and developing new processes that improve or ease client or internal efforts
Education and Skill Requirements:
Minimum three years’ related experience, preferably at a magazine or newspaperOutstanding organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skillsOutstanding communication skills and ability to keep teams on deadlineStrong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe InDesignFamiliarity with digital content management, SEO, WordPress, and PhotoshopKnowledge of AP style and the Monday.com workflow management system a plusAbility to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environmentTo be considered for this position please include work samples with your resume and cover letter.
