Position Summary
The University of St. Francis invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty teaching opportunities for the 2023-24 academic year. The University of St. Francis is a welcoming community of learners committed to enhancing diversity and equity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The university seeks faculty to teach College Writing I and Foundations II/College Writing II, the first-year writing sequence.
The courses are designed to introduce students to the habits of mind and writing skills students need in college, as well as to the conventions of college-level writing, including style, citation, and mechanics.
College Writing instructors are able to design their courses to align with their strengths and interests, provided that they meet the Illinois Articulation Initiative's requirements for the C1900 and C1901 Writing Courses.
College Writing courses cover such topics as: rhetorical appeals and the rhetorical situation; synthesis and multi-source writing ; the writing process and strategies for invention, drafting, revision, and editing; writing genres including narrative, analysis, and argument; and style, mechanics, and conventions.
The courses are grounded in the writing process, and the successful College Writing instructor will support student writing by designing assignments that guide students through the process of developing ideas, drafting, peer reviewing, revising, editing, and proofreading.
Minimum Requirements
MA in English or another appropriate equivalent degree.
Willingness to uphold and fulfill the mission, vision, values, and traditions of the University of St. Francis.
Preferred Requirements
Prior experience teaching College Writing.
Prior experience with Canvas.
Available to teach on-campus in Joliet, IL
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule
Adjunct instructors may have the opportunity to teach up to six credit-hours per semester, or two courses of College Writing. The work schedule is based on department needs/ course schedules.
Physical Requirements of Position
Work performed in classroom settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. This sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
