Job Description SummaryThe Museum Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for executing strategy, planning, and implementing internal and external public relations and communications campaigns. This role also involves managing initiatives to increase public awareness and support for the Museum's mission and goals. The position is responsible for working directly with the Executive Director of the Sarasota Art Museum and the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop a marketing and communications plan that will 1) attract a significant number of guests annually, 2) heighten awareness of the Museum regionally, nationally and internationally, 3) attract new audiences and increase repeat visitation and 4) create awareness for all areas of earned and contributed revenues. The Museum Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and works in direct collaboration with the Executive Director of the Museum and Museum staff.
Job Description
MarketingManage the development of advertising including copywriting, proofreading and scheduling for the annual exhibition season and ongoing institutional campaigns, including creating schedules, drafting copy and spearheading outreach to cultural organizations and media partners.Work closely with Digital and Graphic Designer on project requirements, editors and relevant departments to ensure accuracy of copy and timeliness of production schedules.Implement and measure success of exhibition and institutional advertising plans in conjunction with executive director and team.Develop content and draft compelling messaging for email marketing program including developing lists for targeted messaging. Work with Digital and Graphic Designer to disseminate and track effectiveness.Generate ideas, develop and coordinate social media campaigns and lead the Social Media Working Group.Execute media partnership agreements, marketing elements of grant and corporate sponsorship agreements and co-marketing opportunities with institutional partners.Maintain Institutional Messaging Schedule.Produce, deploy and analyze visitor surveys.Ensure brand consistency across departments.Communications
Research, write, edit and distribute press releases, advisories, exhibition schedules, calendars and other materials by establishing and tracking deadlines while soliciting and fact checking information from staff.Respond to media inquiries, pitch stories, arrange interviews; accompany and serve as primary contact for photographers and film crews.Maintain, research and segment media contacts; send press materials from the Agility media database.Manage all aspects of exhibition press previews and interview schedules.Organize and coordinate the distribution of images used by the department.Assist executive director on drafting talking points, quotes and community awareness presentations.Update the website press room. Excellent communication, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.Strong quantitative reasoning with the ability to measure, justify and refine branding efforts based on data.Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and problem-solve.Demonstrated expertise in related work field; ability to implement a communications and marketing strategy within a large organization to both external and internal audiences.Understanding of digital marketing tools and technology.Stays current with the latest digital media trends to ensure relevant communication experiences with prospective and current art and design students.Effective presentation skills.Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects.Education and Experience
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or relevant field.Four years of related work experience (may include media buying, copywriting, proofreading, email marketing and/or project management.Preferred:
Non-profit experience.Working knowledge of local Sarasota and relevant media outlets.
