Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History is part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a Center within the University’s Academic Affairs Division, we have a central role in supporting the University’s academic mission. We have a commitment to broaden the range of intellectual discourse about African-Americans and to encourage better understanding of people of the African diaspora and their perspectives on important social and cultural issues.
Position Summary
The MURAP Writing Coordinator is responsible for conducting comprehensive writing instruction for MURAP participants. For each MURAP cohort, the writing coordinator will support the senior writing coordinator in:
- Designing writing instruction in key components of the writing process.
- Reading all required assignments and drafts for each student and providing substantive comments for revision.
- Facilitating bi-weekly classes for a humanities-based writing group and a social science-based writing group.
- Being a resource for students if they encounter any problems in the writing process.
- Creating an environment where students actively participate in the writing and revision process.
- Attending all program events and activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous experience leading workshops and experience in academia and academic language and writing.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Worked in a similar capacity above.
