The People & Culture, Communication Manager is a member of the Middletown Circular Operations management team as well as the regional and global People & Culture and Communication networks. This is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full-cycle support to our employees and leaders at our site. The People & Culture and Communication Manager plans and executes internal and external communications designed to keep Middletown Circular Operations and its stakeholders informed about and involved in our objectives and achievements. The People & Culture and Communication Manager has one Business Partner reporting to and working closely with them.

Core Responsibilities:

Identify and implement initiatives that support the business strategy specific to Middletown Circular Operations, focusing on People & Culture and Communication.

Advise, challenge, and coach the management team on matters related to People & Culture and Communication.

Implement and manage People & Culture/Communications programs, processes, and policies within the plant, aligned with organizational values, ethics, and policies and compliant with labor laws and agreements (e.g., employee recognition programs, company orientation programs).

Drive, challenge, and support line managers in change management, employee engagement, organizational development, culture, and people development to enhance business performance.

Prepare and distribute communications primarily directed at employees through various channels such as face-to-face meetings, newsletters, TV signage, bulletin boards, emails, and other key tools for effective internal communication.

Create articles and provide photography promoting the company for publication on our intranet and other Volvo Group corporate platforms. Maintain our Circular Operations Middletown Intranet site as Web Editor and Infomaster.

Manage the Communications Budget.

Actively participate in North American and/or Global Communication and People & Culture networks as required, potentially including membership or leadership in global projects, attending global team meetings both in person and virtually.

Stay connected through benchmarking and best practice sharing with People & Culture and Communications colleagues worldwide.

Who are you?

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.

5+ years of experience in Human Resources or Communications, including at least 5 years in a managerial leadership role.

3+ years of leadership experience in a unionized manufacturing setting.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and multicultural communication skills.

Proven ability in change management and driving organizational transformation.

Negotiation skills to represent company interests and achieve optimal outcomes.

Experience in Organization Development and Business Cycle Management (e.g., Workforce Planning).

Expertise in coaching and facilitation.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Photoshop.

Familiarity with US employment law and ability to build trust across cultural and geographical differences.

Project management skills with experience handling multiple local and global projects.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with union representatives, including labor negotiations and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.

Strong communication skills (written and verbal) across various media, comfortable interacting at all organizational levels.

Basic knowledge of business and accounting principles, including business case preparation and budget planning.

Willingness to travel, including internationally.

Photography and event planning experience is a plus.
