Location: Binghamton, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Mon Jul 22 2024 Job Description:Binghamton University's Office of Research Advancement seeks a detail-oriented Technical Writer with experience telling compelling stories about science and innovation.The ideal candidate will bring a passion for working with scientists, engineers and other scholars to communicate about their work. The Technical Writer will be comfortable juggling multiple projects with tight deadlines and will join a team of accomplished communicators with colleagues in the Division of Research and the Division of Communications and Marketing. The successful candidate will write about Binghamton's growing portfolio of R&D initiatives related to batteries and battery manufacturing as well as other high-priority campus research areas such as neuroscience, electronics packaging and materials science. The Technical Writer will collaborate on communications projects that support the research enterprise and elevate the research reputation of Binghamton University.Responsibilities:+ Develop story ideas and conduct interviews with faculty, staff and student experts.+ Produce news and feature articles and press releases of varying lengths for use in digital and print projects, including content produced on deadline.+ Write, edit and revise fact sheets, presentations, websites and video scripts.+ Communicate effectively with colleagues and sources to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in all work.+ Use Associated Press style as well as Binghamton University's house style guide and proper grammar and spelling for all written communications.Job Requirements:+ Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with demonstrated excellence in writing skills OR a bachelor's degree in journalism or communications with demonstrated ability to cover science and technical topics+ At least 2 years of experience as a technical writer, with a portfolio of published work showcasing your ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely+ Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality content+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of professionals+ Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with tools such as Zoom and content management systems+ Ability to coordinate, multitask and prioritize tasks to meet deadlinesAdditional Information:Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually.
