The State Street Church, an Open and Affirming church, seeks a part-time Music Director-Organist to join our church ministry. State Street Church is an urban church on the peninsula of Portland, Maine. We boast historical and beautiful spaces and we host a loving, welcoming, and joyful community.

Leading weekly rehearsals for, directing and accompanying the volunteer adult choir
Collaborating with the pastor to select appropriate music for all worship services
Playing organ and piano during services
Utilizing and incorporating church members’ volunteer musical talents
Arranging, scheduling, and overseeing guest musicians
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a music-related discipline or other significant musical training required; Master’s degree preferred
Professional mastery of organ and piano
Experience conducting vocal and instrumental ensembles
Experience working with amateur choir
Knowledge of current trends and resources in church music
Demonstrable familiarity with various music genres
Preferably familiar with church worship
Must pass criminal background check
Compensation and Benefits
This is a year-round, part-time, salaried position, typically requiring 15-20 hours per week, including rehearsals and worship services.
Hours are flexible outside of scheduled or standing activities.
Salary range: $20,000-25,000, depending on qualifications, education, and experience
Honoraria for weddings and memorial services, consistent with church policy
Paid time off
Retirement plan contribution
Use of church organ and pianos for private teaching lessons
