General Description

SUNY Niagara has a need for a part-time Music Instructor for our Aural Skills I course. This course is taught in person in a classroom setting on our Sanborn, NY campus and deals with aural perception, audiation, sight-singing, and dictation training of rhythm, melody, and harmony. Class sessions will largely consist of individual and group participation activities to build training in aural perception. Instructional methods will also include listening examples and outside practice.

Remuneration for this position is: $915 per lecture hour/$819 per lab hour.

Typical Work Activities

  • Teach course on campus.
  • Track attendance as needed.
  • Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester.
  • Report grades at the conclusion of the semester.

Essential Functions

Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors, and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare, and present information. Must be able to operate computers and physically perform the duties of the position while adjusting any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Three years of experience teaching at a high school or college level.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Music or related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel and Word).
  • Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.
