Description
The Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking an outgoing, energetic, resourceful Event Assistant to be responsible for assisting the Special Events Coordinator in planning, operating, and implementing all Town-wide events including, but not limited to, the Spring Eggstravaganza, Independence Day Celebration, Festival Latino, Trick-or-Treat the Trail, Holiday Block Party, and Friday Family Flicks. This supplemental position will also support the Marketing Coordinator with a variety of tasks that support the department including brochures, flyers, website, social media and email newsletters. Work hours are Monday-Friday generally between 8am-5pm with some weekend and evening hours.
Examples of Duties
Typical tasks include but are not limited to:• Event preparation, set-up, and clean-up• Keeping an accurate inventory of supplies and inspecting inventory for proper condition• Enforcing rules and regulations at events• Coordinating volunteers at events• Creating marketing materials using a variety of tools including social media posts, reels, flyers, graphics, and email newsletters• Proof-reading marketing materials• Updating the department's website information• Attending non-Town events to promote the department's events, programs, and services• Operate Town vehicles, including a 15-passenger bus
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must possess the following:
High School diploma or equivalentBe at least 18 years oldCPR/First Aid Certification or ability to receive within 6 months of hiringA driver's license valid in North CarolinaExcellent customer service experience with good verbal and written communication skillsExperience with technology and social media toolsAbility to lift/move 20 lbs alone and 50lbs with assistanceAbility to stand/walk for long periods of timeAbility to work in outdoor conditions regularlyEvent planning and coordination experience preferredMarketing experience preferred
Additional Information
This supplemental position will be scheduled for up to 20 hours per week.
