Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking an individual to provide support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC), Marine Mammal and Turtle Division’s (MMTD).OAI supplies personnel support services on contract to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species.Background
MMTD has a protected species reprint and rare book library housed onsite at the SWFSC. This library comprises thousands of references on all aspects of marine mammal biology, with a focus on areas that are particularly relevant to the SWFSC (e.g., tuna/dolphin issue, fisheries interactions, taxonomy, population biology, cetacean ecology, eastern North Pacific marine mammals, etc.). To preserve this unique reference collection and make it more accessible to researchers, MMTD is seeking a Bibliographic Data Manager to digitize this library by developing a digital repository of searchable PDFs, create and maintain an easy-to-use bibliographic database (e.g., Endnote - Clarivate Analytics), develop documentation and training materials outlining how to use the database, and to provide training to staff on how to use the database.Duties
Key tasks include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:Digitize library references.Carefully create or obtain a PDF file for each reference in the library without damaging original copies. PDF files will be labeled and organized in folders that allow the references to be easily located and retrieved by call number.Develop a bibliographic database (preferred to be in Endnote – Clarivate Analytics or other SWFSC approved bibliographic software available to all staff) with integrated search capabilities. The database should be in a format that allows it to be linked to the existing SWFSC database C-MaMMaLL and the Navy SEALL I and SEALL II bibliographic databases.Prepare documentation and training materials on how to use the database.Prepare and deliver a training for users on bibliographic data management with instructions on how to use the database.Participate in periodic SWFSC and MMTD meetings with the Project Lead(s), NMFS staff, and Center leadership to exchange information, provide updates, and to stay informed.Start Date : October 01, 2020Salary and Benefits : This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.Minimum Required Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university with a major directly related in a field of study as related to the requirements of specific task order with emphasis in fisheries, oceanography, social science, natural science, mathematics, or hydrology, plus four (4) years of experience in related field or combination of such totaling eight (8) years combined education/experience.
