Technical Director - Structural Engineering
to serve as Technical Lead for Alternative Delivery Projects in our
Herndon, Virginia
office.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in procurement of transit, highway and infrastructure projects using Alternative Delivery methods (P3, DB, CM/GC).
The successful candidate will also have extensive experience delivering traditional projects (project specific and on-call task orders) for Federal, State, and municipal clients.
Your Impact
Lead proposal preparation and business development activities.
Lead projects with all aspects of Transportation Design from conceptual and preliminary engineering to final design.
Responsible for maintaining schedule, budget, quality and profitability of assigned projects
Coordinate with other design disciplines.
Prepare plans, specifications, and bid packages.
Ensuring that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
Coordinate with internal and external clients.
Create effective long-term client/contractor relationships
Support business development initiatives.
Representing WSP's alternative delivery and structural engineering capabilities in assigned locations, markets, and at industry associations.
Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
Provide training to staff- level engineers
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or closely related discipline.
10+ years of relevant post education experience in the design and preparation of construction contract documents for transportation projects.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia
Understanding and familiarity with AASHTO and VDOT Design Guidelines and Standards.
Proficiency in design software including Larsa, Midas, MDX, CSI Bridge, STAAD, OpenBridge Designer, Descus, Merlin-Dash, Mathcad, and Microstation.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Strong relationships with Alternative Delivery project Owners, Clients and Contractors is strongly desired.
