The New York Post is looking for a creative, versatile Design Editor (Various Shifts Available) to join our fast-paced newsroom. If you have a passion for bold visuals, a digital-first mindset, and the skills to turn ideas into eye-catching designs, this role is for you. As a key member of our Design Team, you'll help bring stories to life across digital and social platforms, as well as print.
Responsibilities:
- Design compelling digital visuals including interactive infographics, illustrations, composites and maps.
- Stay ahead of design trends, tools, and techniques to keep our visuals fresh, relevant and competitive.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Design Editor and Sr. Design Editors to develop innovative graphic concepts that align with the Post’s bold brand identity.
- Work closely with editorial teams to integrate text and visuals seamlessly, enhancing storytelling whether digitally or in print.
- Generate fresh ideas for visual storytelling, with a strong focus on engaging digital content.
- Prioritize multiple projects efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) and design tools such as Flourish and MapCreator.
- A digital-first approach with ability to create designs for web, mobile, and social platforms; familiarity with print techniques is also necessary.
- Exceptional sense of typography, layout, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically under tight deadlines.
- Passion for news, sports, viral content, pop culture, and emerging digital trends.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A portfolio showcasing a range of design work, especially digital projects.
- Willingness to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
Note: The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 4 days per week (subject to change depending on business needs).
