Summary:
NMSU Grants was established as a branch of New Mexico State University in 1968 through the cooperative efforts of New Mexico State University and Grants Municipal Schools. As a two-year branch community college, NMSU Grants serves the local communities in Cibola and McKinley counties, including the Pueblos of Acoma, Laguna, and Zuni, as well as Tohajiilee, San Mateo, San Rafael, Cubero, the City of Grants, and the Village of Milan.
Classification Summary:
Under limited supervision, creates marketing and communication programs that effectively describe and promote the divisions services and/or products, including graphics, brochures, fact sheets, digital content, or other promotional materials and/or products. Research and develop content for marketing and communication publications. Responsible for improving and maintaining content to raise brand awareness and monitor metrics to increase engagement.
Classification Standard Duties: Develop and manage marketing and communication projects. Write or edit, direct the design of, publish and distribute marketing and communication materials designed to meet the marketing and communication objectives of the division. Manage all activities to produce these materials including procurement. May assist in designing and implementing digital media plans and strategies and achieving digital marketing goals and objectives. May coordinate and manage the creation of digital content such as website, blogs, press releases and podcasts, infographics, videos etc. May provide website content strategies, analyze site traffic, and offer actionable recommendations for improvements that will help the School optimize the effectiveness of its digital presence. May be required to leverage analytic tools to provide reporting and insights, track and improve metrics, and influences testing for social media, content marketing, search engine optimization, and social advertising campaigns. Coordinate and assist with special events and community outreach projects designed to increase awareness and utilization of services. Oversee the maintenance of essential resource and background files to include subject/source files, photo files and related information essential to marketing and communications duties. Cultivate and evaluate sponsorship opportunities for the department. Uphold the NMSU mission and brand and acts as brand 'goodwill ambassador' to positively represent and promote NMSU. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of marketing, advertising and mass communication. Knowledge of research principles, methods, and resources. Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools. Knowledge of communication principles, media, and public relations techniques. Knowledge of media production and publishing principles and processes. Knowledge of journalism principles and processes.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Records maintenance skills. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Skills in the use of database management, word processing, spreadsheet, and/or presentation software. Basic technical knowledge of HTML and web publishing.; ABILITIES: Ability to balance the create and analytical sides of marketing and the ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information. Ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure, and format of a range of written material. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects and events.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Marketing Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating marketing approaches that are inclusive and reflective of NMSU Grants' diverse audience with the goals of increasing engagement and college awareness. This position will design captivating graphics for both print and digital marketing purposes for departments, programs, and events; assist in the development of a social media strategy, take and edit high-quality photos to be used in marketing campaigns; record, edit and publish high-quality videos featuring in-person and virtual events; work with NMSU Marketing and Communications to ensure all communications, campaigns, and promotional items are consistent with the NMSU brand; assist Student Services with campaigning in SLATE or any other platforms and at recruitment events; work with Web Designer to ensure website is continually updated; plan, coordinate, and market campus events and activities; provide college presence at community events; prepare a marketing and communications annual report; other duties as assigned.
