Basic Purpose Fosters the development, implementation, and successful execution of innovative category and “Go to Market” (GTM) strategies. Maintains a lead role in implementing strategies, ensuring they adhere to overall national category strategies while meeting Area needs. Oversees Area marketing activities. Facilitates and oversees customized pricing and product assortment for the Area based on customer needs. Identifies segment growth opportunities within the Area's market. Manages and oversees local needs, marketing, brand management, culinary solutions, and other specialists. Due to multiple sites within the Area (including Hub and market DCs), this position requires virtual leadership to effectively cover sales volume and labor force. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Partner with corporate and region personnel on the development of customized merchandising, marketing, and category strategies for the assigned Area. Lead merchandising support within the Area Hub based in the DCs and collaborate with Area Replenishment leadership, ensuring consistent execution across multiple sites. Provide leadership and oversight for day-to-day initiatives within the Area, including product assortment changes, marketing events, pricing adjustments, aimed at driving sales performance and GP3 (purchase allowances + selling margin, less deviations). Monitor Area performance related to category initiatives, segmentation, sales, and market trends; adjust strategies accordingly to ensure alignment with US Foods strategies and local needs. Share best practices to facilitate improvement. Oversee department activities to meet profit and loss (P&L) goals, including purchase allowances and cash discounts. Maximize profitable sales growth through assortment, pricing, and marketing activities. Manage GTM strategies to drive sales, profit, and new account growth. Coordinate resources for the prioritization and implementation of Area category initiatives. Manage relationships with vendors and coordinate funding with regional and local suppliers. Review and approve product assortment, including new SKUs, and provide feedback on SKU performance and opportunities, ensuring alignment with category strategy and driving EB penetration. Oversee the deviation process, margin management, and vendor negotiations. Work with Sales to plan and facilitate local promotions, customer events, and marketing activities, including budget management. Assist in developing and maintaining the Area training schedule. Serve as the main contact for new customer onboarding, bid coordination, and managing the SOS program. Coordinate sales activities and support for Area-specific specialists. Manage and lead the sales support team. Qualifications
Education/Training:
Four-year college degree in business or related field, or equivalent experience. Related Experience/Requirements: Minimum of 10 years in category management, marketing, or purchasing, preferably in foodservice or food manufacturing. Experience in a matrixed environment and virtual leadership across multiple sites. Willingness to travel overnight as needed. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to operate successfully within a matrix organization. Excellent management, negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. Proven ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate effectively. Self-motivated with strong business acumen, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Access is a plus.
