Job Summary
The Directory of Music Ministry is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a music ministry across the parish to include leadership of liturgical music and the development and direction of multiple choirs in English and Spanish. The position reports to the Pastor and operates under general supervision with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.
Essential Job Duties
Produce consistent, high-quality liturgical music for St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church
Provide guidance and leadership to volunteer choirs, cantors, and instrumental musicians including rehearsals, preparation, and music selection for assigned ensembles.
Directs choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists at assigned liturgies.
Develop and monitor Department budgets and supervise department expenditures.
Recruit, assess and evaluate the performance of volunteers and contract musicians.
Ensure that parish and diocesan guidelines within the Ethics and Integrity in Ministry program are followed and promoted.
Work collaboratively with other department heads and ministries both within the parish and the Diocese of Austin to help ensure the explicitly defined goals and objectives of St. Anthony Marie de Claret parish and the Diocese of Austin are successful.
Attend parish staff meetings and liturgy committee meetings.
Assist brides, grooms and families select appropriate liturgical music for weddings, funerals, and other special family focused liturgies.
Purchase music materials, related resources, instruments, and equipment in accordance with the annual budget.
Maintain the Parish Music Library.
Assists clergy with continuing music education possibilities and resources.
Maintain all aspects of One License including the reporting of the music included with livestream events.
Accompany choirs, cantors and instrumentalists on the organ and piano at liturgies.
Maintain organ and all other keyboard instruments in terms of tuning, maintenance, and repair as necessary.
Assist in the preparation of worship aids for weekly High Church liturgies, funerals, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and other Feast Days as required, to include music files to be presented in Pro Presenter.
Work closely with the Facilities Manager and Audio/Visual team to maintain the church sound system and ProPresenter projector software.
Work with the Communications & Finance Coordinator and the Audio/Visual team to ensure the proper use and troubleshooting of ProPresenter projector software.
Administration
With the aid of the Priests and staff, develop a budget which reflects the growth and expansion of the Music Program through responsible stewardship of funds.
Assess and revise as necessary Cantor and Choir Operating Policies.
Update/refresh Music Ministry page on St Anthony Marie de Claret website.
Assess and refresh the music library as needed/appropriate.
Assess current musical assets and make recommendations for repair, replacement, or removal, as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings:
Bachelor's degree in Music or related field from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country.
Ability to play piano. Organ and other instrument playing ability is a plus.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Catholic Requirement:
Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Texas driver's license.
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
